Music Therapy

Music Therapy

Music therapy is an interpersonal process in which a trained music therapist uses music and all of its facets-physical, emotional, social, aesthetic and spiritual- to help a patient improve in health. Music therapy can be used to promote a calm meditative state, as the breathing, the heart rate, blood pressure and temperature of the body decreases to reduce stress.

Music therapy can be used with individuals of all ages and a variety of conditions including pain management issues, cancer patients, stoke victims, depression, anxiety attack and patients with severe debilitating complex symptoms due to a chronic or terminal illness.

When it comes to Hospice and end of life issues, survey indicates that people's fears revolve around concerns of dying alone, being unable to breathe and dying in pain. A music therapy session can take a patient beyond the music into silence that is comforting and spiritual. This can alleviate pain and other distressing symptoms which can help the family cope better.

Our Healing Music practitioners along with our team of Comfort (Palliative) care experts and professionals will work closely with the attending physician to help our patient regain control and a quality of life.

MD House Calls

MD House Calls

Did you know that Progressive Hospice’s physicians make house calls? To reduce frequent hospitalization and frequent emergency room visits, hospice physicians will visit a client in their place of residence when necessary. Nurses can also initiate continuous care shifts ranging from 8 to24 hours a day to manage either uncontrolled symptoms or a crisis.

Caregivers Support

A chronic or terminal illness impacts the whole family, especially the caregiver. The caregiver can be overextended physically, emotionally and even financially. Our family centered approach focuses on care for the caregiver by providing comprehensive support and hands on assistance, utilizing our personal care aides and volunteers for respite care.

Our personal care aides can be there for bathing, grooming, dressing, feeding, grocery shopping, food preparations, chores, laundry, light housekeeping, and companionship .

We also offer caregivers support groups where caregivers can meet weekly and support each other. The meetings are facilitated by our master’s level social worker and our chaplain in our office weekly.

Be an informed consumer. Explore your healthcare choices.

  • Our staff will coordinate services with your physician and be your advocate, providing medical care only under physician supervision
  • It’s about quality of life for you and your family

Hospice Care is not just for cancer patients only.

  • Care is also provided for clients with chronic heart disease, chronic lung disease, renal disease, neurological illness, Alzheimer’s/Dementia, Lou Gehrig’s disease (ALS), AIDs and many others.
  • An RN is available 24hours/day, 7days/week and is just a phone call away. If necessary the nurse will come see the patient and family any time of day, night, weekends and holidays. Our staff is always available for you.

You are eligible for hospice services when the physician certifies a prognosis of 6 months or less if the disease follows its natural course.

  • However, if your condition remains appropriate for hospice care, you can receive hospice indefinitely. Our hospice staff will evaluate your condition at periodic intervals.
  • Patients can be discharged from hospice if their condition improves, others remain on longer than 6 months.
  • The hospice philosophy is to live life to its fullest with comfort and dignity. Although a cure may no longer be possible, good care is available to prevent suffering. One gift of hospice is its capacity to help families identify and show their spiritual connections with each other.
  • We come to you wherever you call home (residence, long term facility, hospital, assisted living).
  • No out of pocket expenses. Most insurance companies including Medicare and Medicaid will cover hospice expenses.
  • We work to find the right comfort balance for every patient, relieving pain without sacrificing alertness. This requires constant consulting with the patient and family and sometimes regular adjustment to medication or other treatment.
  • When the family is overwhelmed from care, we provide respite care.
  • In case of a crisis or uncontrollable symptoms, our staff will initiate continuous care and remain with the patient 8-24 hours a day until the situation is under control.
  • It’s not just about the patient but support for the family as a whole.
